A Brief History

Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition (PPCC) is the result of the Pennsylvania Children’s Hospice and Palliative Care Coalition (PA-CHaPCC) and Helping Hands – Healing Hearts (HHHH) combining resources to light the way and expand efforts to improve the lives of children with life-limiting conditions.

The PA-CHaPCC, a statewide network of parents and professionals dedicated to improving the care and quality of life for the children living every day with life-threatening, life-limiting illnesses or conditions, and their families, was officially formed on May 27, 2009 as an outgrowth of the Pennsylvania Pediatric Palliative and Hospice Care Task Force (PPHC) in January, 2008. The PPHC resulted from a collaboration of Liam’s Foundation for Pediatric Palliative Care that was established in July 2003 in the Philadelphia and surrounding counties and the Pittsburgh Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition (PPPCC) which began in September 2004 for the Western Pennsylvania area.

Helping Hands – Healing Hearts, a volunteer organization for families and health care professionals in Southwestern Pennsylvania, was formed in 2004 to promote quality hospice and palliative care for children with life-threatening conditions. It was adopted as the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church’s Jubilee Mission Project to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
